Research Assistant Positions in Microscopic Image Analysis of Neurons

Research Assistantships  available for graduate  (M.S.  or Ph.D.) students at Bahçeşehir  University & Sabancı University

We are looking for ambitious, hard-working, and committed graduate  students  from  Electrical &
Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering,  Biomedical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering
disciplines to fill in the following positions:

One Ph.D Student (available immediately)

36-months research assistantship on the topic of segmentation, clustering, classification, and tracking of dendritic spines from two-photon microscopy images. Background on signals and systems, image analysis,  probability  theory, and machine learning  is expected. Strong software skills (Matlab or C/C++) and good communication skills in English (both oral and written) are required.

One M.S. Student (available immediately)

24-months research assistantship  on the topic of  segmentation and classification   of dendritic spines
from  two-photon  microscopy  images.  The candidate will closely collaborate with Ph.D. students
working on the same project.  Background on signals and systems and probability theory as well as
interest in image processing is expected.  Strong software skills (Matlab  or  C/C++) and good communication skills in English (both oral and written) are required.

Interested candidates should contact  Prof. Devrim Ünay  (devrim.unay@bahcesehir.edu.tr)  or Prof.
Müjdat Çetin  (mcetin@sabanciuniv.edu)  and send a  detailed resume,  undergraduate  (and  if
applicable graduate) transcript, a brief statement of research experience and interests, GRE (or ALES)
and English Proficiency Exam test results,  copies of  publications (if applicable), and the names and
contact information of two references.

They should also apply for graduate study at  Bahçeşehir University  (see
http://www.bahcesehir.edu.tr/academic/academic/graduadeschoolofnaturelandappliedsciences/onlineapplication) or Sabancı University (see http://fens.sabanciuniv.edu/eng/?Basvuru/lisansustuBasvuru.html)

Research Assistant Positions in Signal Processing for Brain-Computer Interfaces

Two research assistantships are available for M.S. and Ph.D. students to work on the exciting problem of brain-computer interfaces (BCI). The broad objective of BCI research is to develop systems to enable patients who cannot use their motor functions to control computer-based devices by measuring their brain activity directly through EEG signals. The core of this project involves the development of algorithms for information extraction from EEG signals.

This is a project funded by TUBITAK and led by Sabanci University. Partner institutions include Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, Malardalen University (Sweden), and the Technical University of Berlin. These positions involve interaction with and visits to these partner institutions. A brand new facility at Sabanci University has just been constructed for BCI experiments. Ideal candidates for these positions should have an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science as well as strong background in signal processing.

These positions provide a tuition waiver as well as a monthly stipend of 1500 YTL for Ph.D. students and 1250 YTL for M.S. students.

Interested candidates should contact Dr. Müjdat Çetin (mcetinsabanciuniv.edu) and send a resume, undergraduate (and if applicable graduate) transcript, and a brief statement of research experience and interests.

They should also apply for graduate study at Sabanci University.

(see http://fens.sabanciuniv.edu/eng/basvuru/Lisansustu.html and http://www.sabanciuniv.edu/eng/?ok/basvuru/lisansustu/mdbf.html).

Research Assistant Positions in Statistical Signal and Image Processing

Several research assistantships are available for M.S. and Ph.D. students in the general area of statistical signal and image processing. In particular, research will be conducted in one of the following areas:

  1. Sparse-aperture imaging (with applications to UAV-based imaging, radar imaging, nondestructive evaluation, ultrasound imaging)
  2. Computer vision and medical image analysis (image segmentation, shape analysis, magnetic resonance imaging)
  3. Data fusion in wireless sensor networks (with applications to environmental monitoring, smart homes, defense and security, infrastructure monitoring, earthquake detection)

These projects are funded by a TÜBITAK Career Grant and an EU Marie Curie International Reintegration Grant. This work will involve collaborations with and short-term visits to a number of institutions including MIT, the Ohio State University, and Boston University. These positions provide a tuition waiver as well as a monthly stipend of 1500 YTL for Ph.D. students and 1250 YTL for M.S. students.

Interested students should contact Dr. Müjdat Çetin (mcetinsabanciuniv.edu) and send a resume, undergraduate (and if applicable graduate) transcript, and a brief statement of research experience and interests. They should also apply for graduate study at Sabanci University.
