7th Framework Programme

Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials, and new Production Technologies [NMP]

Grant agreement for: Coordination and Support Action

Grant agreement no.: 206966

The main objective of the SUMCL project is to enhance the research capacity in nanoscale materials characterization in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at Sabanci University (SU), where “capacity” refers to the potential of the research units, the management of the research units, and the individual researchers. Although we believed we were well positioned to achieve the mission of our faculty, that being to teach, to do research, and to create a community conducive to these activities, after more than 8 years of operation, we have reached a stage of maturity where, in order to break through to the next level, we could benefit from advice and evaluation by colleagues, who were qualified and more experienced with operating a center for materials characterization at the nanoscale. This was achieved with the independent international expert evaluation of our level of overall research quality and infrastructure, as well as advice on improving the research capacity for nanoscale materials characterization at Sabanci University. The researchers participating in this effort spanned many disciplines, brought together by both research activities involving the characterization of materials at the nanoscale and a common desire to work collaboratively.
